Today as I drove to work in the morning, listening to my usual mess of Alkaline Trio, Matt Skiba, Nirvana, and the such, I saw a yellow Ford Focus just ahead in the lane left of mine. As I inched eternally forward in what is the abomination of the Miami traffic, I noticed the yellow Focus had a Nirvana Smiley Face sticker on it. This of course was enough for me to immediately find the same image on my iPhone; and as I drove past the car I honked and flashed the phone at what ended up being a very pretty girl and I made the devil horn sign with the obligatory tongue. The reaction was returned in kind, and a moment between fans was shared.
That was enough to make my day a little better, especially in the difficult time that is early morning. The real surprise was of course having the yellow Focus again pass me just so I could notice another sticker, this time the Alkaline Trio Heart! I was floored, being that most anyone’s dream someone would hold in high esteem the same influences. All music fans want someone that listens to the same sonic alchemy. And this was not a car with many band stickers may I add. I only counted three, all tastefully placed. Of course Nirvana was placed above and center on the back windshield, with Alkaline Trio bottom left. The third was a triangle with a circle in it, and I have yet to discover what it represents. Perhaps I will spend some time researching it, as it’s most likely another band. If she’s into Nirvana and AK3, then these other guys must be along the same lines of awesomeness.
Aside from all that, it’s moments like these that make you wonder if there is in fact someone out there for you. In the fantasy world inside my head, I could easily picture myself purposely rear-ending the back of that yellow Ford Focus just so I could interact with this other like-minded soul. This of course, would most likely prove to be impractical. Who knows… maybe she’s still out there.
